AdventHealth Lays Groundwork For New Denver Metro Hospital

AdventHealth has announced plans to develop a new medical campus in The Aurora Highlands, a 4,000-acre master-planned community located just south of Denver International Airport in Colorado.

The project marks the first health care facility in the rapidly growing neighborhood.

The development will unfold in two phases. Phase one includes an $81 million investment to construct the AdventHealth Aurora Highlands Emergency Room and an adjacent medical office building. This 88,000-square-foot, three-story facility will be located near the E-470 Aurora Highlands Parkway exit.

Key features of the building include:

  • A freestanding ER with eight exam rooms, two trauma rooms, and a helipad
  • An outpatient imaging center with CT, ultrasound, and X-ray capabilities, with future plans for MRI
  • A second-floor clinic space with 27 exam rooms
  • A shelled third floor reserved for future expansion

The facility will utilize geothermal energy for heating and cooling, aligning with AdventHealth’s environmental goals. The organization signed the U.S. Health and Human Services Health Sector Climate Pledge in 2022, aiming to reduce emissions from operations and electricity by 50% by 2030.

The AdventHealth Aurora Highlands ER is slated to open in September 2026 and will operate as a department of AdventHealth Parker.

“This area is among the fastest-growing in Colorado,” said Michael Goebel, CEO of AdventHealth Parker and AdventHealth Aurora Highlands ER. “With the nearest ER at least nine miles away, this facility will bring essential, whole-person care much closer to home.”

In phase two, AdventHealth plans to expand the site into a Level III trauma hospital, providing advanced trauma life support and diagnostic services. As The Aurora Highlands is projected to grow by nearly 40% over the next decade, the hospital is positioned to scale with community needs.

“This facility represents a major step forward for our community,” said Carla Ferreira, CEO and principal developer of The Aurora Highlands. “AdventHealth’s investment brings world-class care and job opportunities to a thriving and connected neighborhood.”

This expansion is part of AdventHealth’s broader mission to serve growing communities while extending its faith-based, whole-person approach to care across the northeast Denver metro region.
