Ascension Saint Thomas Announces $148.5 Million Hospital To Transform Healthcare In Clarksville, Tennessee

Ascension Saint Thomas has unveiled plans for a new $148.5 million full-service hospital in Clarksville, Tennessee—aimed at becoming a cornerstone of a growing, community-centered healthcare system.

The hospital will be built on a 96-acre site at the intersection of Highway 76 and Interstate 24. Initial plans include 44 inpatient beds, with the capacity to expand to 132 as community needs evolve.

This new facility, supported by a broader integrated health campus, will enhance healthcare access for residents of Clarksville, Montgomery County, and surrounding areas. It is expected to significantly reduce travel times for care, streamline services, and bring more advanced medical options closer to home.

Comprehensive Services And Job Creation

The project will generate approximately 250 new healthcare jobs and expand access to high-quality, faith-based care. The new hospital and surrounding health campus will offer:

  • Emergency services, inpatient surgery, cardiology, oncology, women’s health, NICU, orthopaedics, and other essential specialties
  • Outpatient surgery, advanced imaging, and additional ambulatory services to ensure coordinated, seamless care
  • Flexibility for future growth based on community healthcare demands

This investment underscores Ascension Saint Thomas’ commitment to providing world-class, mission-driven healthcare. Currently, many Montgomery County residents travel up to 50 miles for surgical or obstetric care. This new facility is designed to address that gap, offering more choice and access in their own community.

Leadership Perspectives

“Our commitment to Clarksville and Montgomery County is part of our mission to bring health, healing, and hope to all,” said Fahad Tahir, President and CEO of Ascension Saint Thomas. “This new health system represents our belief that every community deserves access to high-quality healthcare close to home.”

Dr. W. Cooper Beazley, orthopaedic surgeon at Tennessee Orthopaedic Alliance, added, “As a longtime physician in Clarksville, I’m thrilled that patients and families will soon have more local options for care that reflect their unique needs and values. Ascension Saint Thomas consistently provides compassionate, patient-focused care, and this investment will greatly benefit Montgomery County’s healthcare future.”

Next Steps in the Process

Ascension Saint Thomas has secured the land and taken the first regulatory step by submitting a Letter of Intent to apply for a Certificate of Need. The formal application is now under review by the Tennessee Health Facilities Commission. A public hearing is scheduled for July 25, allowing local residents to offer feedback and support.

This marks the beginning of a multi-phase process involving community engagement, physician collaboration, and regulatory oversight. Updates will be shared at: www.ascension.org/clarksville.
