Children’s Health Breaks Ground On $5 Billion Dallas Campus
Children’s Health and UT Southwestern Medical Center recently broke ground on a $5 billion pediatric health campus, set to replace the current Children’s Medical Center Dallas.
The new facility will span more than 4.7 million square feet, featuring a state-of-the-art pediatric hospital as its core. This hospital will consist of two 12-story towers and one eight-story tower, along with expanded services, greatly increasing the capacity for inpatient, surgical, and outpatient care to accommodate the growing and vibrant Dallas metropolitan area.
The new pediatric campus will be located at the intersection of Harry Hines Boulevard and Paul M. Bass Way, directly across from UT Southwestern’s William P. Clements Jr. University Hospital. McCarthy Vaughn Partnership (MVP), a collaboration between McCarthy Building Companies Inc. and J.T. Vaughn Construction LLC, will serve as the construction manager, while HKS and Perkins&Will will lead the design team. The facility is expected to open within the next six to seven years.
This advanced hospital will feature 552 beds, expanding Children’s Health’s inpatient capacity by 38%. Additionally, the emergency department and operating room spaces will grow by 15% and 22%, respectively, with the flexibility to accommodate future expansion. The facility will include a Level I pediatric trauma center with 90 ED exam rooms and 24 observation rooms. A new fetal care center will offer the region’s most advanced maternal and fetal health services.
Other features of the campus include a connector bridge linking the new hospital to UT Southwestern’s William P. Clements Jr. University Hospital and a new outpatient building with 96 exam rooms.
Christopher Durovich, President and CEO of Children’s Health, stated, “For over 110 years, Children’s Health, alongside our 60-year partnership with UT Southwestern, has been dedicated to providing the best care to the families of North Texas. With the area’s pediatric population rapidly growing, this new campus reinforces our commitment to ensuring every child has the opportunity to fulfill their dreams, regardless of the challenges they face.”
Moreover, the project has received substantial support, including a $100 million gift from The Rees-Jones Foundation, marking a historic achievement in Texas. This is the first time a non-profit construction project has received two individual leadership gifts of $100 million, with the Jean and Mack Pogue family’s $100 million gift announced earlier in May.
