Two Health Systems Are Combining Forces Across Denver — And The Network Is Bigger Than It Looks

Two major nonprofit health systems are preparing to significantly reshape their presence in the Denver healthcare market through a new joint venture.

AdventHealth and Intermountain Health have agreed to combine a substantial portion of their Denver-area operations into a jointly owned network. The planned organization would bring together eight hospitals along with a broad collection of physician practices, outpatient clinics, urgent-care locations and emergency facilities across the region.

Under the proposed structure, AdventHealth would be responsible for operating the combined network.

The partnership reflects the continued evolution of large healthcare systems toward broader, more integrated regional networks. Rather than relying primarily on traditional hospital campuses, major providers are increasingly building interconnected platforms that extend into outpatient medical offices, urgent care, physician practices and other neighborhood-based healthcare settings.

For Denver’s healthcare real estate market, a network of this scale could have implications well beyond the hospitals themselves. Coordinating dozens of outpatient and physician locations under a single operating structure may influence future facility planning, leasing decisions, medical office demand and where the systems choose to expand or consolidate services.

The transaction also highlights the strategic importance of scale as health systems compete for patients throughout rapidly growing metropolitan markets. Bringing hospital and outpatient operations together can give providers a broader geographic footprint while allowing them to coordinate care across multiple types of facilities.

The AdventHealth–Intermountain partnership would create one of the more substantial integrated healthcare networks operating in the Denver area — but one important detail about the venture illustrates just how extensive the combined platform is expected to become.
