Forney’s Growth Spurs Major Healthcare Investment: Texas Health To Open New Hospital By 2027
In response to explosive population growth and increasing demand for medical services, Texas Health Resources has unveiled plans for a state-of-the-art hospital in Forney.
The 242,000-square-foot facility is scheduled to open in 2027 and aims to significantly enhance healthcare access for the city and surrounding areas.
A Major Milestone for Forney
Set on 50 acres along U.S. Route 80—next to the future Villages at Gateway retail development—this new hospital will bring comprehensive healthcare services to one of the fastest-growing communities in the U.S. The site is expected to be a regional hub, with nearby retailers including H-E-B, Target, and Home Depot.
Texas Health Resources, headquartered in Arlington, is partnering with The Beck Group, a Dallas-based architecture and construction firm, to design the facility. In addition to the hospital, the development will include a four-story professional office building.
Hospital Features and Capacity
Upon opening, the hospital will house approximately 60 beds, with plans to expand to 104 beds over time. The initial build will include:
- 30 surge beds
- An intensive care unit (ICU)
- An intermediate care unit
- An eight-bed neonatal intensive care unit (NICU)
These offerings were detailed by Toya White, president and chief nursing officer at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Kaufman.
The facility will also feature a 24/7 emergency department, surgical suites, labor and delivery services, and advanced imaging technology—allowing residents to receive high-quality care close to home.
Meeting Rising Demand in Kaufman County
Texas Health’s expansion into Forney comes at a critical time. Kaufman County, which includes Forney, is the second-fastest-growing county in the United States. Between 2020 and 2023, Forney’s population alone surged by over 51%.
Texas Health currently operates a 91-bed hospital in nearby Kaufman, which has served the area since 1975. The new Forney facility is designed to complement these services and address the region’s growing healthcare needs.
Economic and Community Impact
While cost and job creation figures have not yet been disclosed, the project represents a substantial investment in the region. Texas Health acquired the land from Meadow Ridge Farm LP in May 2024, following a City Council-approved zoning change to support medical development.
Beyond bricks and mortar, Texas Health Resources has demonstrated its commitment to community well-being. Over the past five years, the organization has awarded more than $1 million in grants to programs across Kaufman County, supporting initiatives focused on mental health, food security, and social connection.
Looking Ahead
With space reserved for future expansion, the new Forney hospital is poised to grow alongside the community it serves. Comparable in size to Texas Health hospitals in Rockwall and Mansfield, and eventually to larger facilities like Baylor Scott & White’s Heart Hospital in Plano, the project symbolizes a bold step forward in regional healthcare.
As Forney continues its rapid transformation, the arrival of this new hospital ensures residents won’t have to leave town to access the high-quality medical care they deserve.
